Josiah we are so grateful for 19 years with you. The fact that you have chosen to commute to school this year and still come into our bedroom at whatever hour you get home to tell us every detail about your day, brings joy to our hearts. We love you and are extremely proud of you and how you have not only transitioned to living in the US, but how you've now transitioned into college life. You've shown wisdom, patience, and a great work ethic at school and your job that makes us excited about all you will accomplish in life. We echo the words of your professor from this year..."you're going to make a great teacher!"
Now for some
1. We remember how you used to sit in the living room the entire night of the NFL draft, with your notebook on your lap and how you kept track of every draft pick. Not only that, you knew where each player went to college even before the announcers said it.
2. We used to quiz you on your multiplication tables while watching football. We figured if you could remember every conceivable detail about each team and sometimes even player's birth dates, you could definitely memorize your multiplication facts. Turned out it was true!!
3. Learning to live in the U.S. after so many years in Ecuador hasn't been without some difficulty. We remember when you came home and said, "why didn't you tell my Mickey D's was McDonalds?" Turns out some football teammates wanted to go out to eat and you didn't now what Mickey D's meant. Funny now, but a bit embarrassing at the time.
4. We'll never forget the night we went out to eat at the fanciest restaurant near us in Ecuador and you fell into the creek (when you went exploring) while we were waiting for our food to arrive. You ate your food wrapped in a towel while your clothes were dried by the restaurant's owner!
5. One year for your birthday we created the Shell Football League (SFL) and had a blast making T-shirts and playing football with your friends all afternoon.
We love you, Josiah! Happy Birthday!!!
