Weekend Jont

Last weekend we decided to drive down to Sucua for a visit.  My parents hadn't been there since we lived there, 7 years ago.  It used to take between 4 and 5 hours to drive there from Shell and now it's just a short 2 hour drive because the road is paved!!  Oh, the luxury!

This is the bridge you used to cross.  If you were riding a public bus, you had to disembark and walk across two bridges like this and catch another bus on the other side.  It was a bit scary if you were crossing and a car decided to cross as well!

This is the new and improved bridge!
Just so you don't think life is all modern here!  There is a bridge out and small cars can go across this temporary bridge - but buses and bigger trucks have to go to the right through the river.

Our  friends, the Insuasti's, live in Sucua and the plan was to go down and swim at a wave pool there....I know Sandi.....who knew Sucua could have something that nice?!!  But, of course, it was raining.  So we improvised.  We met our friends in Macas for lunch and then a tour of Carlos's new hangar (he's an airplane mechanic).  Then, we moved on to Sucua.  Because it was raining we brought our Wii with us and everyone had to take their turn making a fool out of themselves!  Any time spent with the Insuasti's is FUN and full of laughs!

See if you can find Puyo and you'll see an airport symbol and that's Shell.  If you can find Macas, Sucua is just south of it.

Carlos, Silvana & Mika with us.  It was a great surprise that Mika would be home from college while we were there.

Another picture to prove my parents were with us!

These last two pictures are good "Engrish" signs for you....   The funny thing was that they were right next door to each other!

  1. Wow! Look at those nice roads! I am impressed. Ecuador is so modern now ;-) Looks like you all had a really fun time. I can only imagine what it would be like to play Wii with the Irwins. (or "Woo" as one of my Mom's friends calls it.)
