Taking advantage

Since my parents were here for their annual, long visit, Chad and I took advantage of their childcare services and went to Baños for my birthday.  Baños is about an hour away, super touristy, and is also home to the most active volcano in Ecuador, Tungurahua.  We had a great time and decided that we need to get away more often than once every three years!

We are always amazed that anyone in this country can make any money.  Every little booth offers the EXACT same items and they even display them exactly the same!

Our friend Wilson and his wife at the tagua store.  The ornaments we brought back last furlough were made by Wilson.  Tagua is a nut that resembles ivory, but it grows in the balls that are in this picture.
